CPER Metals Research — September 6, 2026

CPER $39.95 — bullish above $40.97, bearish below $39.81

CPER closed at $39.95, essentially flat versus a $39.91 prior close, trading in a tight range between $39.81 and $40.025 on the session (per the latest Tradier quote).

Line in the sand

Copper's A-wave cycle low for this structure was $32.305 on March 20, 2026 — the deepest drawdown of the year, sharper than the more recent June pullback to $37.72. The rally off that base topped out at a B-wave high of $40.965 on August 5, and the reaction since found its low at $38.99 on September 1 (the C-wave low). Spot is now consolidating just under the B-wave high; holding above today's $39.81 low keeps the near-term structure intact, while a reclaim of $40.965 opens the door to the next measured-move target.

How the analysis was built

CPER has traded in a far tighter band than the precious metals this year, consistent with copper's role as a global-cycle bellwether rather than a safe-haven asset. The fund climbed steadily from the high-$20s in September 2025 to a spike high near $40.44 on January 29, 2026, then corrected sharply into the $32.305 cycle low on March 20 — a roughly 20% pullback. From there, copper recovered through the spring, pushed to a secondary high of $40.78 on May 13, dipped again to $37.72 in mid-June, and then resumed higher into the $40.965 B-wave high on August 5.

The pullback since that high has been shallow by comparison to the metals complex, bottoming at $38.99 on September 1 (the C-wave low) before stabilizing in the $39.50–$40.25 range. Applying the ABCD measured-move formula B−C+B: 2×$40.965 − $38.99 = $42.94 — the next primary upside target if copper breaks decisively above the August high.

The long-horizon channel here is worth watching: copper has been essentially rangebound between roughly $37 and $41 since May, a multi-month consolidation that contrasts with the sharper directional moves in gold and silver over the same stretch. A decisive break of either boundary — $40.965 to the upside or the $37.72 June low to the downside — would likely signal the next leg for the broader industrial-metals complex.
