Smart money is quietly loading 5 stocks
Compared the June 30 2026 13F-HR filings (filed mid-August) against March 31 2026 filings (filed mid-May) across the five configured funds: Berkshire Hathaway, Bridgewater Associates, Renaissance Technologies, Citadel Advisors, and Two Sigma Investments. 787 stocks met the raw acceleration filter (net buyers > sellers AND either ≥25% Q/Q aggregate share increase or ≥2 new positions, puts excluded). After stripping mega-cap retail favorites, sector ETFs, meme-tracked names, imminent-earnings reporters, and single-fund block buys from non-Berkshire filers, five names surfaced cleanly. Notable concentration in defensives (two regulated utilities) and in Gartner — a mid-cap research advisory that was crushed in 2025 on AI-disruption fears. The most surprising finding: Bridgewater newly initiated positions in three of the five picks (ATO, NI, IT). Dalio's team deliberately runs low turnover, so new initiations are a thesis-level signal and not a tactical trade. Four of the five picks are currently trading at or below the funds' Q2 average cost basis, meaning retail has not yet followed the accumulation.
CASY
Casey's General Stores IncCasey's is the archetypal boring compounder: fuel, pizza, and prepared food in rural-Midwest convenience stores where it has structural density that larger chains cannot replicate. Bridgewater nearly tripled a small existing position and Two Sigma went 804% larger — unusual conviction for either shop on a mid-cap retailer. Fund Q2 average cost sits around $795; the stock has since pulled back 22% to $618 on no company-specific news, giving a rare window to buy below smart-money basis. Catalyst retail isn't pricing: the December fiscal Q2 report should show the Fikes acquisition integration and pizza-program margin flow-through — Casey's has beaten consensus in 11 of the last 12 quarters.
